Auto Museum celebrates 30 years with  rides in fire trucks, 30 cent ice cream & more!

The California Automobile Museum – which first opened on May 1, 1987 – is recognizing 30 years of history, art and technology with a special celebration on Saturday, May 6, 2017 that includes rides in historic fire trucks from the 1920s to the 1960s, 30 cent ice cream, a children’s story time activity, and more! Rides are offered 10 a.m. to noon and again 1 to 3 p.m.  Rides in historic fire trucks are free (although a donation of $5 is suggested)

These special activities are made possible by participation from involved community organizations such as the Sacramento Fire Museum, Shriner’s Hospital Fire Brigade, West Sacramento Fire Department, City of Davis Centennial, Firefighters Burn Institute, Sacramento Fire Department and the Sacramento Fire Reserves.

Time to Play during Open Cockpit Day at Aerospace Museum!

There are plenty of amazing reasons to visit the Aerospace Museum of California on Saturday, April 8, with the crowd-favorite Open Cockpit Day – that offers a unique opportunity for guests to climb aboard many aircraft to pilot their own adventure – PLUS the opportunity to experience the dramatic and interactive Leonardo da Vinci “Machines in Motion” international traveling exhibit AND enjoy a $5 off admission as part of a Spring Break pricing special. In     addition to the open cockpit opportunities on this one-day-only, a special display of WWII military flight gear will be set up along with re-enactors on-site, a dog tag making machine and an eye-catching vintage military jeep that is sure to capture attention.

It’s All Aboard for Story Time! with B Street Theatre Company Member Amy Kelly as a celebrity guest reader on Monday, March 27, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the California State Railroad Museum.  Amy, a talented local actress, comedian, voice-over artist and impersonator, will read the book “The Transcontinental Railroad” by John Perritano. The book is especially timely given B Street Theatre is currently presenting an engaging and original play titled “Going West: The Story of the Transcontinental Railroad” running through April 2. Amy performs a key role in the play that celebrates the men and women who made history by joining our vast nation together.

Railroad Museum announces Tuesday train rides on the Sacramento Southern Railroad

Offered as an expansion of the well-established weekday train ride program for local school groups, California State Parks and the California State Railroad Museum are once again offering excursion train rides to the general public on 10 pre-determined Tuesdays in Spring 2017. Tuesday Train Rides are available on the following dates: February 28, March 7, 14, 21 & 28, April 4, 11, 18 & 25 and May 2. Two train ride times will be available at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on the scheduled Tuesdays when the trains are running.

Auto Museum Introduces New Interactive Programs and Enhancements for Kids, Teens and Adults

he California Automobile Museum is pleased to introduce a number of new interactive programs and exhibits of special appeal to children, teens and guests of all ages. The Museum recently launched a monthly reading program for young children, a distracted driving simulator for teens, and now has a dozen iPads available for guests of all ages to easily access additional content and information about exhibits on display. These exciting new programs and interactive features are all offered free with Museum admission.

In addition to its fascinating Gold Rush past, the Sacramento area is rich with an amazing array of state-of-the-art museums and historic sites that offer visitors the chance to explore California’s fine art, history, science, and wildlife treasures all year long.
