Man shot, killed by police and deputies in Yuba City was reported missing out of Butte County | Crime
YUBA CITY, CA - The man shot and killed by deputies Wednesday led authorities on a chase before he was confronted by them.
Daniel Lee Luncha Jr., was suspected robbing a Marysville Taco Bell drive-thru and a Yuba City Burger King, Yuba City police spokesperson Shawna Pavey said.
Luncha was reported missing by his employer in late March of Butte County after renting a silver Town and Country Van for Luncha. Pavey said police are still investigating why the employer reported him missing.
Yuba County sheriff's deputies were patrolling the area behind the Linda Walmart when they spotted Luncha near his van. Pavey said Luncha matched the description of the fast-food robbery suspect and deputies tried to talk to him.
However, when Luncha saw the deputies, he jumped into his van and sped away from the scene. Pavey said he led deputies on a chase southbound on Highway 70, then turned around and headed northbound. Yuba City police officers, who joined the chase, deployed spike strips and damaged his tires. According to Pavey, Luncha continued to drive over the 5th Street Bridge into Yuba City; the chase ended at Plumas Street and A Street.
According to witnesses, they heard police on a loud speaker telling the Luncha to get out of the car. Witnesses then heard gunshots.
Pavey did not release details of the shooting.
