Showcasing the rich history and deep connection between agriculture and the railroad, the California State Railroad Museum Foundation is proud to continue its multi-year partnership with Visit Sacramento as an official Farm-to-Fork sponsor. To celebrate the important role the railroad once played in bringing the fruits of the farm to emerging new communities throughout the region and nation, the Foundation is excited to announce that two VIP Cocktail Train Ride experiences will be available this year, one each evening, on Saturday, September 29 & Sunday, September 30, 2018. In addition, the Foundation is pleased to welcome returning sponsor Rabobank N.A. – a locally based bank serving California communities grounded in agriculture – for the 2018 Farm-to-Fork Cocktail Train ride experiences.

Medicine in the Old West

Medicine in the Old West

Saturday, September 15, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. The doctors of the Gold Rush Era worked exhaustively to not only take care of their patients, but also to give to the community through their roles in improving public health, education, and maintaining important records. Many needed to find other sources of income, as their patients often were unlucky in finding gold, as were most of the physicians. Some suffered exciting lives, including being on a ship full of gold that sunk off the eastern coast of the United States.  A number of the physicians worked together to form the Sacramento Society for Medical Improvement, now the Sierra Sacramento Valley Medical Society, the oldest such Society in California.

The cemetery is located at 1000 Broadway, Sacramento. There is free street parking on surrounding streets. Tours are free; however, donations are appreciated and benefit cemetery preservation. For more information, call 916-448-0811.
