Saturday, October 28, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. Come join a one hour guided tour of the Hamilton Square Garden in the beautiful Historic City Cemetery. With 800 plus unusual Mediterranean perennial plants the garden has drought tolerant color all year long. This will be the last “What’s Blooming?” tour of the year. Meet at the Tenth Street gate.

The community is invited to visit, stay and play in Midtown Sacramento from morning until night on Saturday, October 28, 2017, to enjoy a wide variety of Halloween-related experiences sure to entertain individuals, families and four-footed friends alike.  A sampling of the spirited activities happening that day include the following:

Midtown Farmers Market from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on 20th at J & K Streets
In addition to a bounty of harvest and farm-fresh fruits, vegetables and other gourmet edibles available, Halloween-related activities will be on the menu at the Midtown Farmers Market on this special day. Shoppers are encouraged to come in costume and children of all ages are invited to take part in a fun and free mini pumpkin scavenger hunt throughout the market plus pick up a free temporary tattoo decal. Friends of Sutter’s Fort partners with B Street to present “The Haunted Fort"

Friends of Sutter’s Fort, in partnership with California State Parks and B Street Theatre Company, are proud to present “The Haunted Fort” for two-evenings only on October 27 & 28, 2017, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. each night. With an enhanced and family-friendly format, guests will have the special opportunity to explore the dimly-lit Fort at night at their own pace, interact with knowledgeable docents in period attire (who will share scary, spooky and sometimes disturbing details of pioneer life in the 1800s), participate in fun and interactive stations set-up throughout the Fort, and also be entertained by a number of talented performers from B Street Theatre Company.

Delightful not frightful…“Spookomotive” trains to treat Old Sacramento visitors in October

Back by popular demand, California State Parks and the California State Railroad Museum & Foundation will once again offer engaging and entertaining “Spookomotive” train rides for three weekends beginning in mid-October. With VIP First Class train rides also available, “Spookomotive” trains operate hourly from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays beginning the weekend of October 14-15 and continuing on October 21-22 and October 28-29, 2017. Each operating weekend the “Spookomotive” will have a special theme, and the experience includes exciting on board entertainment and a tasty Halloween treat. Train ride guests are encouraged to get in the spirit and dress up according to the fun weekly themes that include: Superheroes & Villains (October 14-15), Pirates & Princesses (October 21-22) and Witches & Wizards (October 28-29).

North State BIA home tour kicks off this week

Perfect for potential new home buyers, the North State Building Industry Association (BIA) is pleased to announce the 2017 Sacramento Home Tour scheduled for October 12-15. Proudly sponsored by La-Z-Boy Home Furnishings & Décor, the 2017 home tour includes more than 40 new home communities and 150 model homes in seven cities within the greater Sacramento region. Model homes on the tour will range from 1,298 square feet to 4,357 square feet, from two to seven bedrooms, that start from the upper $200,000’s to the low $900,000’s. Participating Home Tour cities include Sacramento, El Dorado Hills, Lincoln, Rocklin, Roseville, Elk Grove, and Folsom.

Aerospace Museum to debut interactive new TAKE FLIGHT Exhibit

The Aerospace Museum of California is proud to present an interactive new exhibit titled TAKE FLIGHT that will be available for guests to explore and enjoy from October 17, 2017 through January 9, 2018. With a variety of dynamic elements and multiple activity stations, guests of all ages will begin to understand the fundamentals needed to achieve flight. The new TAKE FLIGHT exhibit will occupy approximately 2,000-square feet of space on the ground floor inside the impressive Museum.

In addition to its fascinating Gold Rush past, the Sacramento area is rich with an amazing array of state-of-the-art museums and historic sites that offer visitors the chance to explore California’s fine art, history, science, and wildlife treasures all year long. This fall, many of the 30 members of Sacramento Area Museums (SAM) are offering fun Halloween, Día de Los Muertos and harvest-related events and activities – some for families, children only or specifically for adults.  A sampling of the special activities is listed below (but please check with the various museums and/or destinations for more detailed information):
